How long is the Crit'Air sticker valid – and where do I put it?
As of: 01.11.2026
The Crit'Air sticker does not need to be renewed. It remains valid as long as it is legible and belongs to the vehicle – so as a rule for the entire life of the vehicle.
When do I need a new sticker?
- New vehicle: the sticker is tied to a specific vehicle and cannot be transferred.
- New windscreen: the sticker cannot be peeled off and stuck onto another windscreen.
- New number plate: the number plate is printed on the sticker; after a change of number plate, a new one is recommended.
- Illegible sticker: for example if it is badly faded or damaged.
A change in low-emission zone rules, on the other hand, does not require a new sticker. Your vehicle's class stays the same; only which classes may drive where changes.
Where is the sticker displayed?
- Car, motorhome, van, lorry and bus: on the inside of the windscreen, bottom right, with the printed side readable from outside.
- Motorbike, scooter, moped and quad: clearly visible with the printed side facing outwards, on a surface in front of the forks or on the front of the vehicle.
Clean the area first so that the sticker adheres well. Make sure it does not restrict your field of vision and can be easily read from outside.
Frequently asked questions
- I am selling my car – what happens to the sticker? It stays on the vehicle. As long as the number plate does not change, the new keeper can continue to use it.
- The sticker has been lost or damaged. In that case, order a new one; the old one may no longer be used.
- Do I need a separate sticker for each vehicle? Yes, each sticker belongs to exactly one vehicle.
- Do I have to remove the sticker after my trip? No. It may stay on permanently and is also valid for later journeys.
And the German environmental sticker?
The German environmental sticker (Umweltplakette) and the Crit'Air can be displayed side by side on the windscreen. Neither replaces the other: in France only the Crit'Air is valid, in Germany only the Umweltplakette.
