Crit'Air classes: which sticker will my vehicle get?

As of: 01.11.2026

The French Crit'Air sticker comes in six classes. It shows how many pollutants a vehicle emits. The lower the number, the cleaner the vehicle – and the fewer driving bans affect it. The class depends on three things: the type of vehicle, the fuel and the Euro emissions standard. If the Euro standard is not known, the date of first registration is used.

The six stickers

  • Crit'Air 0 (green): electric and hydrogen vehicles
  • Crit'Air 1 (purple): newer petrol cars, gas-powered vehicles and plug-in hybrids
  • Crit'Air 2 (yellow): newer diesels and older petrol cars
  • Crit'Air 3 (orange): diesel Euro 4, petrol Euro 2/3
  • Crit'Air 4 (burgundy): diesel Euro 3
  • Crit'Air 5 (grey): diesel Euro 2

Vehicles older than the lowest class are non classé (unclassified) and do not receive a sticker. In most low-emission zones they are the first to be banned.

2Euro 3 – motorbikes 1/1/2007 – 31/12/2016, mopeds 1/1/2007 – 31/12/2017
3Euro 2 – 1/7/2004 – 31/12/2006
4no Euro standard – 1/6/2000 – 30/6/2004
unclassifiedbefore 1/6/2000

There is no class 5 for two-wheelers. Electric motorbikes and scooters receive the green Crit'Air 0, just like electric cars.

Vans, lorries and buses

Light commercial vehicles (up to 3.5 t) are classified using the same logic as cars; some cut-off dates are slightly different. Lorries and buses are classified by Euro standards I to VI – a Euro VI diesel, for example, receives Crit'Air 2.

Where do I find this information?

On your vehicle registration certificate (logbook), the date of first registration is in field B and the fuel in field P.3; the Euro standard is often shown in field V.9. When you order with us, we show you the likely class as soon as you have entered these details. The binding classification is the one made by the French issuing service on the basis of your registration certificate.
