Ordering Crit'Air with a foreign number plate: process, documents, delivery time
As of: 01.11.2026
The Crit'Air sticker is issued by a French government service (certificat-air.gouv.fr) and sent by post – including to the UK, Ireland and other countries abroad. You can apply for the sticker directly there or use an ordering service such as ecopass24, which handles the application for you.
What you need
- Number plate and country of registration
- Vehicle registration certificate (logbook): a clearly legible photo or scan, front and back
- Details from the registration certificate: vehicle type, fuel, date of first registration, manufacturer and vehicle identification number (VIN)
- Your delivery address and email address
One sticker is issued per vehicle. The registration certificate is required because the issuing service checks the classification against the details recorded in it.
How much does the sticker cost?
The French issuing service's fee for vehicles registered abroad is €5.11 including postage. Ordering services also charge a service fee for checking, submitting the application and customer service. At ecopass24 you see the total price before you order.
How long does delivery take?
After you apply, you receive a confirmation by email. The sticker itself comes by post from France. For France, the authorities quote around ten days; for delivery abroad you should allow two to three weeks. So order as early as possible before your trip.
Is the order confirmation valid until delivery?
After you order, the issuing service sends an invoice showing an image of the sticker. However, there is no rule requiring the police to accept this in place of the sticker. Carry the printout with you anyway – it shows that you have ordered. You are only fully covered once the sticker is on your vehicle.
Common mistakes when ordering
- Blurred photos: make sure the number plate, VIN and date of first registration are legible in the photo, without glare from a flash or plastic cover.
- Only one side: upload both the front and the back of the registration certificate.
- Ordering too late: just before the holidays start, many people order at the same time; it is better to allow some extra time.
- Typos in the number plate: the number plate is printed on the sticker – check it before submitting.
